I
attended my first Girls Day Out women's ski camp in 2011 at Kicking Horse
Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia. Girls Day Out also takes place in
other locations, check out the website to learn where they will be next year. http://www.girlsdoski.com/
The event is to bring women together to learn from coaches, participate in workshops, shred some pow and have a crazy amount of fun. There were 6 groups, two at each level – confidence (blue runs – going on blacks), technique (black runs) and style (drops and all that jazz). I attended with two friends, one was in my technique group and the other was in level above, style. Individuals grade which group they think they should be in which I found worked well with my group all at a very similar level. Our coach Megan Simes, was an excellent teacher with a background in coaching ski racers. She focused on what the group needed to learn together and as individuals. We had 10 people in the group. Megan was from Golden and although I’ve skied there many times we went on new runs, steeper pitches and tighter chutes then I had before. I doubt I would have gone to some of the chutes with as much confidence as I did with my husband but being with all women really give you a different comfort level.
I highly recommend attending a Girls Day Out event to any female skier looking to better their skills or just to meet other female skiers and have some fun.
I'd like to do a women's bike clinic if anyone has any recommendations! I prefer a weekend length commitment not much more.
