What to take car camping

    I've sent this car camping reminder / packing list to several friends new to camping. Thought others might find helpful. It's for tent camping and high level (doesn't get into exact clothes or food).

    Tent

    Sleeping bags

    Sleeping pads

    Pillows

    Stove

    Chairs for around fire

    Flashlights / headlamps

    Bug spray / sun screen

    Warm and cool clothing

    Swim suits and towels (ya never know)

    Plates cutlery cups/travel mug

    Water bottles that can be refilled

    Hiking shoes/runners

    Sandals

    Backpack for H20 etc for walks

    Books, Frisbee, games, etc

    Food and drinks

    Bucket to wash dishes

    Towel for random driving

    Lighter/matches, newspaper, wood

    That's a useful list for people new to camping ! We tried car camping for the first time last year didn't think to take a lot of things with us, luckily our friends we were with were more experienced and had things like matches etc so we weren't completely lost !

    I added to and organized my car camping check list this year, here is an updated version:

    Gear:

    Tent

    Sleeping bags

    Sleeping pads

    Pillows (stuff sacks that turn into pillows are handy)

    Chairs for around fire

    Flashlights / headlamps (lots of them so you can keep on in tent, one in bug shelter, etc)

    Kitchen:

    Larger Tupperware container to keep all Kitchen items together

    Stove and fuel

    Pots / Pans

    Cooking Utensils, Knife

    Plates, cutlery, cups, travel mug

    Cutting board (so nice to not cut on plastic plates)

    Can opener, bottle opener, cork screw (Multi-tool usually covers all of these)

    Coffee pot (plunger or peculator)

    Large water container for cooking and drinking

    Water bottles that can be refilled

    Grill for fire or hot dog sticks

    Cooler: Food and drinks

    Bucket to wash dishes

    Towel and cloth

    Camp suds

    Dish cleaning container and sponge

    Personal items:

    Duffel bag to hold items

    Bug spray / sun screen

    Swim suits and towels

    Hiking shoes/runners

    Sandals (use for easy in and out of tent)

    Sunglasses

    Clothing: Socks, underwear, long johns (also good as PJ's), pants, shorts, t-shirt, long sleeve, rain jacket, sun hat, toque, light gloves, warm layer

    Bathroom bag (things you may not think of): baby wipes (quick face and hand cleaner), camp suds (great for everything), bug bite treatment, first aid kit, little mirror, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, chapstick

    Extras:

    Bug Tent

    Multi-tool / Swiss Army Knife

    Backpack for H20 etc for walks

    Books, Frisbee, games, etc

    Lighter/matches, newspaper, wood

    Axe or saw if need to chop wood

    Bear spray, bear bangers

    Picnic blanket (great for babies so they can move on ground and not constantly be eating rocks)

    Tarp and rope for rain / shade protection

    Folding table (we use one for our stove)

    Garbage, recycling and dirty clothes bags

    Paper towel, facial tissue

    Compass, Maps, Hiking Guide Books

    National Park Pass

    Binoculars

    Camera

    Travel Stereo

    Water filter pump or water purification tabs

    Potty for kids
